On July 15-17th 2023, ICO Delegation (James Holmes, Siddiqa Masud-Ahmad and Kübra Kalkandelen) visited Bahrain to launch a cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions. Futoon Alammadi (Diplomat) accompanied the delegation during the official visit.

Within the framework of the visit, first of all, our delegation held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs. (Director-General of the Mohammed bin Mubarak Academy for Diplomatic Studies Chief of Human Rights Affairs Sector) and ICO introduced its global activities for minority rights and peaceful coexistence initiatives. Following that our delegation was informed about the activities and functioning of the Academy for Diplomatic Studies and continued the meeting with H.E. Shaikha Muneera AlKhalifa, Director General of the Mohammed bin Mubarak AlKhalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies. Afterwards, the premises of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence have been visited.

Subsequently, our delegation visited H.E. Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairman of the National Institute for Human Rights, and participated in the field visit of Open Prisons complex equipped with the education systems, including computer labs and a library. The housing units offer both living requirements, and skills building training to rehabilitate prisoners as a part of alternative sentencing programme.

Finally, during the meeting with H.E Hala bint Mohammed Jaber Al-Ansari Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women, we explored the participation of Bahraini women in various national development paths and contributions of Supreme Council of Women since 2001 for equal opportunities and integrating their needs in plans.

During the meetings, Amb. Dr. Arwa Hasan Alsayed (Head of Human Rights Affairs), and other officials received the delegation warmly.

Our delegation participated in official tour of religious sites in Manama: Matam Alarrayed; Bahrain Synagogue and Shree Krishna Temple and was informed by community leaders about the peaceful coexistence in Bahrain.

ICO Delegation now studies the experience of Bahrain in the field of peaceful coexistence and also empowering women and exploring potential areas of cooperation for tangible joint initiatives that we can work at regional and international levels to achieve common goals.
