The Institute for Local Government Innovation is an ICO Institute focusing on research, publication and promotion of local policies and initiatives that have impacted lives across worldwide communities. The Institute seeks to act as a disseminator of information and a research centre on the impact of local government policies. We currently conduct independent research and analysis, engage with key stakeholders and establish strategic partnerships to progress the Institute’s core mission. James Holmes role as the ICO Secretary General and Merton councillor for over a decade, are the motivators behind founding the institution.
The objective of the institute is to research and share good practice at local level, measure performance, highlight case studies, organise conferences and networking.
Tackling wide scale inequality, encouraging reconciliation and ensuring communities have access to their economic, social and political rights is the core of ICO’s mission. However, these ambitions need to lean on strategies, research and analysis, which have undergone trial and error.
Local government provides a great laboratory for new ideas, local level policies can focus on specific community problems whilst also possibly providing the framework for larger scale policy change.
The Institute aims to elevate the lives of citizens around the globe but also presents the possibility of being an initiator for greater community cohesion and reconciliation.
